Burundian by birth – Batimbo by blood

We are Inganzamarimbo – a Burundian band based in Switzerland.

Our name translates to „The Ruling Drum“. It is the heart of our ensemble: the brightly painted master drum that sets the rhythm and guides us. As Batimbo (drummers), we are the guardians of Burundi’s centuries-old, sacred drumming tradition, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage. We carry this primal power in our blood and bring it to the stages of Europe with pride.

Although our drum „rules“, it does not govern with harshness – but with a clear message: PEACE.

Our songs, rhythms, and performances tell of peaceful coexistence, respect, and mutual harmony. When Inganzamarimbo resounds, it is not just a crowd-puller; it connects worlds. The thundering bass, traditional vocals, and dynamic dances are an invitation to overcome boundaries and celebrate life together.

Our drums, also known as Karyenda, symbolize the feminine. Out of deep respect, we carry these drums – which weigh up to 120 kg – exclusively on our heads during transport, and traditionally, only men are allowed to play them. Every element of the drum is a symbol for a part of the female body.

The home of the Karyenda lies in Burundi, but its message was no longer heard. In Switzerland, we have found a place where we can live and share this precious cultural heritage with the world in absolute freedom and independence. For us, drumming is not just a cultural asset, but a lifelong mission: wherever people are divided by origin, language, or borders, we want to build a bridge of dialogue and peaceful coexistence with our rhythms. From Switzerland, we carry this connecting power to the stages of Europe – as ambassadors of harmony and unity.

Bring the powerful energy and the peace message of the Batimbo to your event.
